The Common Model

I look at ads around in the magazines and on television; I then go and dress myself up, look in the mirror and my thoughts are  tend to be, "hmmm, wow look at me? I am the common model." Then I go about my business. However, I have found that this statement means more to me than just a simple statement of recognizing I like in what I see, but that I like to represent the best of the common world.

While I was in the Cayman Islands last October (2011) visiting a friend of mine, we would play 'dress-up' as 20s somethings like to do when the clothes are a bit too expensive, but we know we look good in them anyways. We like to try them on and them take model like pictures of fun-n- flirty, come hither, and silly poses and things. We both look good in our skins and we both can laugh and be fun, or serious, or smouldering, or playful about life. At one picture I made a comment about how we could totally be the common model and the name stuck in my head for days. It just wouldn't leave my mind. So I took that idea and have tried to encompass what I see as a good common example of how life is beautiful without all those airbrushed ways. It's good for the soul. Now granted I normally borrow cameras from friends or use my phone but still life is fun and annoying and adventurous. I want to capture it from different angles, lights, emotions, and the common way, whatever it may be. Smoothly tanned, sculpted bodies are great for the photographer but so is a little childish fun in a 20s something body lighting up the frame with abandonment while laughing it off as a great day!
